A Building Owner intending to carry out notifiable work such as cutting into, raising, repairs and excavations has a strict legal obligation to serve notice in writing upon any Adjoining Owner who may be affected.

Awards

Adjoining Owners can agree or disagree with what is proposed. Where they disagree, the Act provides a mechanism for resolving disputes, whereby surveyors are appointed to make an award.

Building Owner

A Building Owner is an owner of land who wishes to exercise their Legal Rights under the Act. Such rights include for cutting into, raising, underpinning, repairing a party wall and excavations close to adjoining properties

Adjoining Owner

An Adjoining Owner is an occupier or owner of land, buildings, storeys or rooms adjoining those of the building owner and for the purposes only of section 6 within the distances specified in that section.

Prior to setting up his own company, Guy worked in private practice predominantly at Associate Partner level for 14 years, and before in the public sector for 17 years gaining a wide level of experience in professional and building surveying related work. Guy currently specialises in party wall matters and is a member of the Pyramus & Thisbe Club and a Member of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors, which are both recognised organisations promoting party wall excellence.

As a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Young Associates is an impartial, independent, insured and regulated practice adhering to strict codes of conduct and professional values.

We pride ourselves in having the necessary experience in being able to competently deal with all types of party wall issues and have very efficient systems in place, which enable us to offer competitive fees, whilst at the same time maintaining the highest level of professionalism.
